Signs You’re Healing from Trauma

Healing comes in many flavors, and overcoming your stuff takes time. How long?

It takes as long as it takes.

Each person’s trauma is different and there is no formula of how long it will take or what it will look like. I wish it were that easy.

When you process uncomfortable emotions, old programming and patterns, the mind needs a few weeks (or months) to catch up with the body's unlearning. We tend to try to control the aftermath by minimizing the pain and saying, “I’m fine” when you need more time to grieve what was lost as a result of the issue.

After all, stress has taken months, if not years to build up and bury a home in the body. Shining a light on it is a massive step forward. When you show up with a shovel in hand ready to dig deeper, the stress starts to melt away and heavy bricks melt into specs of sand.

How do you know when you’re healing from trauma? Look for these signs:

  • You’re okay feeling your feelings.

  • You take responsibility for your actions and stop playing the victim.

  • You accept unsettling events and forgive the people involved because you see them as humans with their own issues.

  • You’re sleeping better.

  • When you talk about your issues that once used to send you in a spiral, you feel less emotional charge or nothing at all.

  • Triggers don’t trigger you anymore.

  • You’re starting to set boundaries.

  • You care less about what people think of you (even family or close friends).

  • You choose peace over complicated relationships (and wonder why you wasted so much time chasing people who never saw you).

Healing is a process. There is no way to fast forwarding through it as it requires your full attention, love, and acceptance.
